Fleeing the violence of the civil war in their native El Salvador, Vilma Serrano and her family came to Canada in search of a better life. Like hundreds of thousands of other immigrants, the Serrano family have worked, raised a family and contributed to their communities.
A few years back, Vilma was diagnosed with an illness that requires a kidney transplant. However, Vilma is just one of the 3400 persons on a waiting list for kidney donations in Canada. While on this 10 year waiting list, Vilma depends on daily dialysis in order to survive.
